With the hand on his shoulder, Vash instinctively places his own over Buzen's. ]

... You're Matsui's brother?

[wow hand holding, but buzen perks up already at the mention of matsui!!]

Ah, Gou is our Smith's name. We're not related in a family sense. That's a little too human for us, I think.

[other swords call each other brother but the gous have no idea how to process that,]

Right, you're swords. [ Hmmm. Pats Buzen's hand. ] I wouldn't say it's just a human concept... But I guess that's still not wrong.

[ About the gym though. ]

Anyway, yeah! Usually, I train in the early morning in my room, but I'm homeless until I join a team. I don't know what to make of all of this equipment.

[ He pushes a leg press with his free hand. ]

Haha, that's true - spirits can have families too, I'm learning.

[but swords mostly knew humans, so his frame of reference was there for a long time. at the mention of all that though, he hums]

What's your training look like? For us, it's mostly sparring. Though I like going on a run, too.

Well, glad this was cleared up!

[ Vash tilts his head. ]

I'm used to working with very little equipment... So I lean on push-ups, pull-ups, and weight-lifting, but I also work on my reflexes and senses. [ Some finger gun motions. ] Some target practice, too. Not as much as before, though.

Running doesn't sound bad?

[hasteful]

[a little hum of curiosity at that - ]

Human maintenance is really important, huh... [is he assuming vash is human. yeah. he's still slowly getting used to people being something besides human]

Running's not bad at all! It's my favorite - well, scouting in general. Though that becomes less training and more assignment.

[piteous]

I think maintenance in general is important unless you're resistant to change and immortal.

[ Vash is only one of these and he doesn't even try to correct Buzen. ]

It sounds like you swords had jobs? I never really asked Matsui since I thought being a sword is a job itself.

[hasteful]

[he laughs at that,]

I have a comrade who would be happy if just existing as a sword was his job.

But ah, we just follow missions based on what Aruji decides for us. When we're not on those, we actually have to maintain the grounds of the Citadel by doing chores. Horse keeping, farming, cooking, laundry... things like that.

[piteous]

That sounds pretty domestic.

[ Which he finds interesting how they end up that way. ]

What are these missions for though. I hope it isn't war.

[ what else would it be ]

Mm... It's not what you'd normally think of as a war, but I can't deny that we do have battles involved in some of the missions.

[listen vash, this is how you lose the time war,]

Every day in No Man's Land is a person's personal war.

[ Shoots Buzen with a finger gun for play. ]

You guys do some kind of mercenary work? Freelancing.

[hasteful]

Sometimes... or we'll do bodyguard work, or we'll build castles or pave roads.

[he tilts his head]

Typically I just follow whatever orders Aruji lays out, and figure that'll work out.

[piteous]

That doesn't sound like a bad way to live. There's some variety and some security.

Not quite peaceful, however... But I don't know if that's something you guys care about.

[hasteful]

[he smiles at that]

We care about it, even though it might not be in the expected way... We're weapons of war, after all, and then we aren't needed in times of peace.

But... I think that's still what we strive for. For at least humans to enjoy those eras of calm. And then for us... we still get those pockets of peace, where we get to enjoy ourselves too.

[piteous]

Huh! That's rather sweet...

[ Vash didn't want to assume and apply human emotions and thought processes to swords, so he's learning a lot.

But he hums. ]

Is that how you personally feel?

[ So much "we." ]

It is.

[he just laughs faintly, realizing that he did use "we" a lot, huh...]

Mm... I like humans a lot. Partially because we're forged for them, but also because in the times that I've gotten to know them... even when things are complicated, I think that they're always worth watching. I admire what they do, and how they exist in the world even when things are so difficult.

Even though I've technically been around a long time, I'm also learning a lot as I get to know them now.

[piteous]

They always seem to figure out how to make use of things in order to survive, huh. Even when it feels like there's no hope left.

[ Vash laughs a bit. ]

I'm a lot younger than you, but I agree. I like humans a lot, too... And I've learned a lot from being by their side. [ ... ] This may be the afterlife here, but remember instead of watching you're actively participating. This is something you're a part of.

[ Gives him a reassuring shake of the shoulder. ]

I think that can be said when you were alive, too! But it's not like I know anything.

[hasteful]

Ehh? You sound like you know an awful lot, Va-san.

[a little teasing, but buzen grins - and looks him over again, as if trying to understand.]

I think I'm the one who misread something though. You're not human...? I guess I'm still getting used to learning what other types of non-humans there are in the world besides us swords.

[piteous]

[ Vash seems nervous at first, but it shakes off pretty quickly. ]

That's right. I'm not human and, honestly, this is the first time I've met other non-humans who aren't plants.
