There's an island in Inazuma that has a priestess, as well, but I think she's in charge of just about everything over there. It's been a long time since I've visited, and I was only there to study the architecture, so I couldn't really tell you too many details about their customs.
... I don't think that's too different for people in No Man's Land, but obviously we don't get to interact or know God. It's more of a blind faith kind of thing. Very hands off.

Still, in the hundred and fifty years of living in an inhabitable planet without succor, people still pray for deliverance.

And then you have nations like Inazuma, which are led directly by their Archon--or Sumeru, even though it's a little different.

Something like that. [He turns his gaze outward, toward the water.] To be honest, I stopped praying a long time ago. So I'm probably not the best person to ask.
It's alright, it's not a secret. [Just, like, depressing.] My father died about twenty years ago, in the desert. As a child, I thought that if anyone could fix things, it would be a god... or maybe it would be better to say I'd wanted to believe that. But of course that was impossible.

A few other things happened over the years, and... well, I just learned to put my faith in other people instead. But it's not out of any lack of respect for Nahida--it's just that gods work in different ways than we do, I think. When you're drowning, you learn to reach toward an outstretched hand, not to the sky.
